Step-by-Step Guide- How to Upload and Use Emotes in Discord

How to Upload Emotes to Discord

Discord has become one of the most popular platforms for communication, especially among gaming communities. One of the key features that make Discord stand out is the ability to use custom emotes. Emotes are small, animated or static images that can be used to express emotions or reactions in chat. In this article, we will guide you through the process of uploading emotes to Discord and make your chat experience more engaging and fun.

Before you start, there are a few things you need to know:

  • You must have a Discord account and be logged in.
  • Emotes must be in the .png or .gif format.
  • Emotes should not be too large; the recommended size is 64×64 pixels.
  • Emotes should be suitable for the community and not offensive or inappropriate.

Now that you have the necessary information, let’s get started:

Step 1: Create or Obtain an Emote

First, you need to create an emote or obtain one from a reputable source. If you are creating your own emote, you can use image editing software like Photoshop, GIMP, or even online tools like Canva. Once you have your emote ready, save it in the .png or .gif format.

Step 2: Go to the Server You Want to Upload the Emote To

Open Discord and navigate to the server where you want to upload the emote. If you want to upload the emote to a server you manage, you can skip this step.

Step 3: Create a Role

In order to upload an emote, you must have a role in the server. If you do not have a role, create one by right-clicking on the server name, selecting “Server Settings,” then “Roles,” and clicking the “+” button to create a new role.

Step 4: Upload the Emote

With the role created, right-click on the role and select “Edit Permissions.” Scroll down to the “Emotes” section and click on the “Upload Emote” button. This will open a file explorer window where you can navigate to the location of your emote file.

Click on the emote file, and it will be uploaded to Discord. The emote will now be available for use in chat by members with the role you created.

Step 5: Test the Emote

After uploading the emote, test it by sending a message with the emote in the chat. If everything is working correctly, the emote should appear as expected.

And that’s it! You have successfully uploaded an emote to Discord. By following these steps, you can add a personal touch to your Discord experience and express yourself more effectively in chat.
