On the other hand, the largest macaque species, the Bornean Orangutan, can weigh up to 70 kilograms and have a body length of approximately 1.5 meters.

Within the genus Macaca, the size variations are quite significant. For instance, the rhesus macaque, a common species in laboratories and research studies, can weigh between 3.5 to 7 kilograms and have a body length of about 50 to 70 centimeters. The Macaca nemestrina, also known as the crab-eating macaque, is slightly larger, with an average weight of 5 to 10 kilograms and a body length of 60 to 90 centimeters.

In contrast, the genus Trachypithecus consists of smaller macaques. The pig-tailed macaque, for example, weighs around 2 to 3 kilograms and has a body length of 40 to 60 centimeters. The crested macaque, another species in this genus, can weigh up to 4 kilograms and have a body length of 50 to 70 centimeters.

Several factors contribute to the size variations among macaque species. Genetic differences play a significant role, as the various species have evolved in different habitats and have adapted to different ecological niches. Diet also plays a crucial role, as some macaques have specialized diets that require more energy and, consequently, a larger body size.

Habitat is another important factor influencing macaque size. Macaques living in dense forests may require larger bodies to support their weight while navigating through the trees. In contrast, those living in open areas may have evolved smaller bodies to be more agile and efficient in their environments.
